My dog just recently survived a very serious injury where a stick (1m long and about 1.5cm wide) pierced his throat. 20 cm of this stick became stuck in his throat, just missing major arteries, the oesophagus and became wedged in between two vertebrae as it finally came to rest, the stick splitting just in time to avoid severing the nerve that controls the larynx. The outlook wasn't good and we didn't think he would make it... but $6000 and a few weeks later we have a very happy doggy back playing with us. It was Dr Olaf and his team at Murdoch emergency Vet clinic that saved his life, and we are so thankful for that.

Now I am interested in making an awareness video about the risks of everyday kinds of accidents that can happen. Ie the risks of playing with certain toys - sticks, balls, fluffy toys etc. Does anyone have any information or links you can provide me with so that I can research this further?

Obviously I'm not going to be throwing sticks for my dogs anymore.

The vet said tennis balls are very dangerous too, so be careful with them and watch out for your poochies!
